Banshees, Omens and Old Ways

Discover stories of supernatural encounters, local customs, folk remedies and rural life recorded by schoolchildren in the 1930s at Johnston Central Library. Explore 'Stone and Silence'

Virginia Library enjoyed a fantastic opening event for photography exhibition 'Stone & Silence' by Corey Davenport in celebration of Heritage Week. If you couldn't make the opening, Stone & Silence will be on show in Virginia Library until 5th September, so there's still plenty of time to come along and enjoy this photographic journey through some of Ireland's most remarkable ancient monuments.

Heritage Week 2026

This year Heritage Week will run from Saturday 15th to Sunday 23rd August with loads for everyone across the county. Cavan Libraries will be running a number of events and exhibitions. Details of which can be found in our leaflet. The theme this year 'Heritage at Risk' encourages us to explore the built, natural and cultural aspects of our heritage that are endangered, for us to reimagine and revive these sites, artefacts and practices.

Summer Reads - Feedback on 10 Day Loans!

This year we tried something a little different with our Summer Reads titles - a shorter loan period of 10 days. Our aim was to get books back quicker to give you a chance to get through more of the titles on the list. Now we want your feedback - loved it or hated it we want to know! DIAS Dunsink Observatory Workshop
