Chris Haughton is new Laureate na nÓg

Cavan Library Service extends warm congratulations to Chris Haughton on his appointment as Ireland’s new Laureate na nÓg. A much-loved author and illustrator, Chris has delighted young readers around the world with his distinctive artwork and storytelling and his books have always been popular in Cavan Library branches. We wish Chris every success as he takes on this role and look forward to seeing how his creativity and passion for stories will inspire a new generation of children to discover the joy of reading in Cavan and beyond!

Free Heart Health Checks with the Irish Heart Foundation

As part of Heart Failure Awareness Week 2026, Cavan Library Service is delighted to welcome the Irish Heart Foundation to Johnston Central Library on Tuesday, 5 May, from 10.00 am to 2.00 pm. This is a great opportunity to take a few minutes for your heart health — with free, confidential checks and expert advice available on the day. What’s on offer? ❤️ Mobile Health Unit (outside the Library) and Heart Failure Awareness Nurse (inside the Library)

Exciting News! The 1926 Census is being launched on the National Archives website on 18 April 2026. It was the first Census of the Irish Free State and will make very interesting reading for history and genealogy enthusiasts.
