What it’s all about - Cruinniú na nÓg

Ireland is the first, and only, country in the world to have a national day of free creativity for children and young people under 18. Cruinniú na nÓg is a flagship initiative of the Creative Ireland Programme’s Creative Youth Plan to enable the creative potential of children and young people and takes place  on Saturday 7 June 2025.

Creative Cavan  is delivering events throughout Co Cavan and this year events also feature a cross border delivery in County Fermanagh as part of the Shared Island element of the programme.

All ages and abilities are catered for with workshops and programmes ranging from sensory play to recycling art; circus skills to traditional music.  Con Smith Park will provide a beautiful setting for The Cottage Market, Cavan who will host a range of drop in workshops.  The square in Arvagh will be transformed into a colourful celebration of creativity as will Gowna under their Tidy Towns.  Ballyconnell hosts creative biodiversity by 3 schools facilitated by Louise Swords as well as traditional music with Daragh Slack and Ballyconnell Community Centre.  Little ones can enjoy sensory messy play at Bailieborough library and older children learn to story board and create animations by local animator and artist Margaret McKenna in Virginia Library.

Explore and Wonder - Cruinniú

Cross border collaboration between Cavan County Council;  Holy Family School, Cootehill; Willowbridge School, Enniskillen and Share Centre, Lisnaskea sees Cruinniú na nÓg brought to children with additional needs.  The bespoke delivery programme sees Theatre Lab Cavan and Ceol Connected ensure that creativity is for all – delivering to children and young people with additional needs.  Delivery will take place in both schools with an inclusive family fun day held at the accessible Share Centre, Lisnaskea on 7 June 2025 from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm.  For many families a fun day can present challenges and this approach aims to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for all!
