Making Music, Maintaining Wellbeing was delivered by Cavan Arts Office. The project included Singing for Health Group who then performed life on Culture Night to an audience of over 60 people – a first for many of these involved!
“I thoroughly enjoyed this course. It was amazing. Valerie is a fabulous tutor and singer. Meeting all the other ladies attending the course was an added bonus.
Singing is a huge emotional release for me since losing my son in 2004. Music and singing help me so so much.
I found MY voice during the course, a voice that was suppressed due to grief. I'm still singing and humming the tunes we learned. I have also shared them with my 2 year old granddaughter and she is so happy..... Just another thing for us to do together!
The performance we did on the Culture night, while daunting to think about when we heard about it, was an amazing night. We were all buzzing after it for days.
Once again thank you so so much for this very enjoyable course.
I really feel I haven't shared all the benefits of it with you, but I'm delighted to share some.”
The Sing to Me programme in the Nursing homes also received wonderful feedback with the most positive experiences were when the staff engaged with the facilitators.
Drumming for Health workshops attracted a diverse mix of people from different ages and backgrounds. They got to try many different genres of drumming and learn about the history of drumming in Ireland and of Samba Drumming around the world.
“I have always wanted to try drumming but didn't have the "nerve" or opportunity to try it. But thanks to you and the Arts Department I got the opportunity. It was absolutely fabulous. Both the tutors were very knowledgeable and shared their knowledge with us in a very relaxed manner. They supplied a lot of different equipment and we tried different types of music. It was a very relaxing experience with a wonderful group of people.”
