Creative Cavan 2025

What it’s all about - Cruinniú na nÓg

Ireland is the first, and only, country in the world to have a national day of free creativity for children and young people under 18. Cruinniú na nÓg is a flagship initiative of the Creative Ireland Programme’s Creative Youth Plan to enable the creative potential of children and young people and takes place  on Saturday 7 June 2025.

Creative Cavan delivered events throughout Co Cavan and this year events also featured a cross border delivery in County Fermanagh as part of the Shared Island element of the programme.

All ages and abilities were catered for with workshops and programmes ranging from sensory play to recycling art; circus skills to traditional music.  Con Smith Park provided a beautiful setting for The Cottage Market, Cavan who hosted a range of drop in workshops.  The square in Arvagh was transformed into a colourful celebration of creativity as wasGowna under their Tidy Towns.  Ballyconnell hosted creative biodiversity by 3 schools facilitated by Louise Swords as well as traditional music with Daragh Slack and Ballyconnell Community Centre and a song by Curravagh NS.  Little ones  enjoyed sensory messy play at Bailieborough library and older children learned to story board and create animations by local animator and artist Margaret McKenna in Virginia Library.

Explore and Wonder - Cruinniú

Cross border collaboration between Cavan County Council;  Holy Family School, Cootehill; Willowbridge School, Enniskillen and Share Centre, Lisnaskea saw Cruinniú na nÓg brought to children with additional needs.  The bespoke delivery programme saw Theatre Lab Cavan and Ceol Connected ensure that creativity is for all – delivering to children and young people with additional needs.  Delivery took place in both schools with an inclusive family fun day held at the accessible Share Centre, Lisnaskea.  For many families a fun day can present challenges and this approach aims to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for all!
