2022 Decade of Centenaries Lecture Series

Date and time: 07 April 2022 @ 00:00 to 31 December 2022 @ 00:00

Lecture ‘The attack on Travers R. Blackley, Farnham Estate Agent, 8 April 1922’

by Dr. Brendan Scott

One hundred years on, Cavan County Council's Historian in Residence Dr Brendan Scott looks back on an attack on the Farnham estate agent, which took place on 8th April 1922.

That night, Blackley, the Farnham estate agent was attacked at his home outside Cavan Town by a large group of unidentified men. Three of his assailants were killed, and Blakely survived, but he was forced to leave Cavan, never to return. This talk, which will premiere at 7.30pm on Thursday, 7 April 2022 almost 100 years to the day since the attack occurred, will discuss Blackley's story, the attack itself in the context of the events of 1922, and its aftermath.

This lecture forms part of Cavan County Council's Decade of Centenaries 2020 programme and is supported by the Department of Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht under the Decade of Centenaries 2012-2023 Initiative.
