Library Events

Pre-Covid all our libraries were hubs of activity throughout the year. This has changed temporarily of course but we continue online and our annual events programme marks Library Ireland Week, World Book Day, Seachtain na Gaeilge, Culture Night, Bealtaine Festival, Heritage Week, Science Week and Children’s Book Festival and much more. Our programming continues to include exhibitions, lectures, workshops, writer visits, book launches, community, educational and arts events.

Local Studies

Johnston Central Library is home to the single most important resource for the study of the history, archaeology, literature and culture of Cavan. Our unique local studies collection has been built up over eighty years and continues to grow. It includes books, journals, newspapers, maps, digitised materials, microfilm and photographs.
Experienced staff provide a professional Local Studies Service and offer guidance to researchers. Local, national and international queries are dealt with regularly and group visits are always welcome. A “virtual” local studies service is under development.
